Nutcracker on the Rocks
Shira Greenberg’s Nutcracker on the Rocks storms back onto the Helena Civic Center stage on Thanksgiving weekend, November 29 and 30. Cohesion Dance Project presents this electrifying holiday favorite, and it promises two unforgettable performances filled with energy, emotion, and pure rock-and-roll magic.
This isn’t your traditional Nutcracker. The show ignites the stage with powerhouse hits from Janis Joplin, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, The Rolling Stones, and more. Dancers of all ages and abilities blast through decades of music with bold choreography, fierce stage presence, and nonstop momentum. A roaring Harley Davidson even takes the spotlight, adding fuel to the fire of this already explosive production.

Originally created and choreographed by Shira Greenberg in Albuquerque, the production ran there for 20 years. Today, Helena proudly stands as the only city where this innovative version continues to thrive. Audiences return year after year to celebrate this homegrown tradition.
The 2025 cast features nearly 60 local dancers performing alongside guest artists from around the world. Helena’s Harley Hollibaugh stars as Marie, with Jessica Partridge taking on the iconic role of Madame Drosselmeier. Returning artists include Patrick Higgins—fresh from playing Bert in Grandstreet Theatre’s Mary Poppins—and global performer Nina Murphy, back in Helena after four years dancing in London.
