A Rare Gathering of Experts on John L. Clarke’s Life and Art

Nov 13

Free

An extraordinary evening celebrating the life and legacy of John Louis Clarke (1881 1970) - the internationally acclaimed Blackfeet woodcarver known as Cutapuis, “the man who talks not.” Born in Highwood, Clarke overcame the challenges of deafness and muteness to become one of the most prolific artists of the early 20th century, capturing the wildlife and spirit of Montana in wood.
Clarke After Dark brings together a remarkable panel of voices whose combined expertise offers a once-in-a-generation conversation about Clarke’s life, work, and influence.
Featuring:
Dr. Larry Len Peterson Western American historian, author of Blackfeet John L. “Cutapuis” Clarke and the Silent Call of Glacier National Park and recipient of the C.M. Russell Museum Heritage Award.
Kirby Lambert Former curator and educator at the Montana Historical Society and co-author of Montana’s Charlie Russell: Art in the Collection of the Montana Historical Society.
Loren Pinski Sculptor and carver whose work is featured at the John Clarke Gallery in East Glacier Park, and who has restored several of Clarke’s carvings.
Sarah Adcock Associate Curator at the C.M. Russell Museum, moderating the discussion.
