Each artist is displaying her own separate body of work exhibiting different methods of textile artistry. Tarses presents her mastery of weaving with her work entitled “66 Years, but Who’s Counting?””Her passion to weave is seen clearly in her colorful, swirling creations. To her, weaving is the very opposite to everything wrong with the world: the opposite of Destruction is Creation, the root of life. Leutzinger believes combining small pieces to create something personal, handcrafted, and nostalgic is magical. She quickly learned that she prefers creating her own design to following a pattern, and hand-stitching to using a machine. Leutzinger’s body of work “Pershing Avenue” takes us through that magical trip down nostalgic memory lane with her larger than life and off-kilter quilts, bringing an obvious joy to the viewer.
Reception will feature live music by Jennifer Slayden, and be sure to catch the outdoor popup sculpture garden out behind Confluence.
