Two suave violas da gamba, the most feminine and aristocratic of instruments, join violins and lute in works by Lawes as well as Purcell’s King Arthur Suite and Couperin’s La Sultane.
This program features musicians from New York to Seattle who have dedicated their lives to the entertaining and scholarly presentation of music from the 16th and 17th centuries, including Indiana University professors of early music, Ingrid Matthews, baroque violin, and Joanna Blendulf, viola da gamba; sought-after New York City cellist and gambist Sarah Stone; as well as Baroque Music Montana favorites John Lenti, lute, and Carrie Krause baroque violin.
Baroque Music Montana presents tunes and tales inspired by history on original, period instruments. They present concerts in public venues, house concerts, outreach performances, lectures, and an annual workshop on historical performance.
