The Lens and Legacy of Danny On features 30 large frame color slide photographs of Glacier National Park by legendary artist Danny On (1924-1979) Locally, many people in the Flathead Valley will recognize the name Danny On, namesake of The Danny On Memorial Trail, dedicated in 1981, that leads from the base of Whitefish Mountain Resort to its summit through western Montana forests. He was also a published photographer, decorated World War II Veteran and paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division, first Asian American Smokejumper, Forest Service silviculturist, and avid skier. These stunning photographs from the Glacier Art Museum’s collection, some of which are also featured in the well-known Along the Trail (1980) photographic essay book, capture the timeless beauty of the Park’s landscapes and animals, and are the lasting legacy of a man of many talents and accomplishments.
