Indian Country Conversations: Re-Thinking Museum Collections

Mar 28

LT Pick Free

What does it mean to decolonize a museum? How do museums implement culturally responsive practices to preserve collections and make materials accessible to all? How do American Indian tribes handle important material, and how can museums learn from this? What do tribes think about preservation? What are the differences between an anthropology collection and a contemporary American Indian art collection?
MAM will gather a collection of professionals to help answer some of these important questions and guide this discussion. Speakers will bring to the discussions the concerns of American Indian cultural collections and how they differ from different Eurocentric models.
Free and open to the public.
