Introduction to Enameling, Vitreous enamel is the seemingly magical process of fusing glass to metal and is one of the most permanent and durable ways to add color to jewelry. There are myriad enameling techniques that all require a basic knowledge of the craft. In this course you will be introduced to the science and art of vitreous enamel and learn a foundation of enameling skills. Topics covered will include safety, tools needed, metal cleaning and preparation, sifted application, kiln (and possibly torch) firing, variations in texture through over- and under-firing, stenciling, layering colors, and more. Students will leave the class with basic enameling knowledge, many samples, and at least one finished piece.
