The last masterworks concert of the season presents the contrasting themes of war and peace, with the hope of grace and goodwill. Strauss’ Four Last Songs, featuring soprano soloist Melanie Henley Heyn, was one of the last pieces of music he wrote before his death. The orchestra also will be joined by the Symphony Chorale and accomplished guest artists, Melanie Henley Heyn and José Rubio.
Vaughan Williams’ powerful Dona Nobis Pacem, a heartrending cry for peace in the time of war, closes the program with Fanfare on Amazing Grace, as the coda.
