the opera “Pagliacci,” by Ruggero Leoncavallo, is directed by Michelle Berger and features local talent as well as professional opera singers from around the region, including Denver and Washington.
“Pagliacci” is a dramatic tale of love and betrayal. The show revolves around a commedia dell'arte troupe (an Italian comedy tradition that was popular in the Renaissance period). Among the troupe of actors is much drama, infidelity, revenge and tragedy.
The play within a play finds the stage audience thoroughly enjoying the staged tragic ending, not realizing it was real until the actor screams at them, “The comedy is ended!” Pagliacci is sponsored by Rimrock Opera Foundation.
