Prageeta Sharma: The New York School of Painters and Poets

During this installment of the Voices in Contemporary Art Lecture Series, Sharma provides an overview of the New York School of Painters and Poets as context for Philip Guston’s painting, “Cigar”(1969).
Sharma is a professor of English at the University of Montana, and founder of the conference, “Thinking Its Presence: Race, Creative Writing, Literary Studies and Art.” She was recipient of a 2010 Howard Foundation Award and is the author of the forthcoming Grief Sequence (Wave Books, 2019); and the poetry collections Undergloom (2013), Infamous Landscapes (2007), The Opening Question (2004), and Bliss to Fill (2000).
