Program hosted by Yellowstone Gateway Museum features stories of the Little Shell Tribe, helping the audience understand who the people are, and how large a part they play in the history of North America.
Montana's Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians recently became the 574th Indian tribe to be recognized by the United States government this after nearly 150 years of trying. The story of this recognition made news as far away as the Washington Post and The New York Times, yet many people in Montana remain ignorant as to what the tribe is all about. Writer and storyteller Chris La Tray is hoping to change that.
The Little Shell tribe is headquartered in Great Falls and currently consists of more than 5,300 enrolled members.
