Colin Meloy and the Decemberists will perform at 7:30 p.m. May 24 at Big Sky Brewing Company in Missoula. One of Missoula’s most popular groups is back on the road after a four-year hiatus and will feature its new album, What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World. It is their only tour stop in Montana.
The Decemberists, headed by Helena native Colin Meloy, is an indie-rock band from Portland, Ore., known for clever, compelling lyrics about historical events and folklore. Meloy, the principal songwriter, plays guitar and sings; the band also features Chris Funk (guitar and other instruments), Jenny Conlee (keyboards), Nate Query (bass), and John Moen (drums). Their song, “Down By The Water” was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2011. Colin performed with the Missoula-based band “Tarkio” before moving to Portland and hitting the big-time.
Gates open at 6 p.m. at the outdoor venue. Tickets are $32, and available at Big Sky Brewing Company, Rockin’ Rudy’s, online at TicketWeb.com or KnittingFactory.com, or by calling 866-468-7624.
