Tickets are on sale now for the sixth annual Crown Guitar Festival, billed as “Seven Nights of Guitars and Stars.” The festival kicks off on Sunday, Aug. 30, and runs through Sept. 5, at Flathead Lake Lodge in Bigfork.
The Crown Guitar Festival features individual performances by the superb masters of guitar who will be teaching during the week of the Crown Guitar Workshop. Each concert showcases a different guitar genre under the Crown Festival Tent as these master musicians, each backed by a world-class rhythm section, come together in spontaneous collaborations.
Concerts start at 7 p.m. with gates opening at 6 p.m. with beer, wine and food vendors available. On Saturday, Sept. 5, gates open early at 4 p.m.
Crown Festival concert schedule:
- Sunday, Aug. 30: World classical music featuring the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet with opener blues prodigy “King” Solomon Hicks.
- Monday, Aug. 31: Steely Dan guitarist Jon Herington and friends, with sultry songstress Madeleine Peyroux.
- Tuesday, Sept. 1: Jazz legend Lee Ritenour and friends, with Oscar-winning composer/pianist Dave Grusin.
- Wednesday, Sept. 2: “Wild Child” Brett Dennen and friends with Texas bluesman David Grissom opening.
- Thursday, Sept. 3: Rock fusion band Zappa Plays Zappa featuring Dweezil Zappa, performing music by his famous father; Brazilian jazz maestro Romero Lubambo opens.
- Friday, Sept. 4: Students join faculty and jam bands in a free concert.
- Saturday, Sept. 5: The Amazing Finale Extravaganza features a new format that includes special guest Shane Theriot as musical director, the workshop faculty, and many of this year’s artists in residence.
