Aber Day Reunion ConcertThe Aber Day Kegger will reprise its celebrated union of charity and revelry for the first time in 36 years, from noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Winninghoff Park in Philipsburg. The 2,500 tickets were sold out by mid-August.

The Aber Day Reunion Concert features Aber Day alumnus the Mission Mountain Wood Band, alongside Wylie and The Wild West and Shane Clouse and Stomping Ground. The Philipsburg Rotary Club hosts the event in Philipsburg’s outdoor amphitheater in partnership with the University of Montana Alumni Association and Missoula Liquid Assets Corporation (MLAC), the original organizers of the kegger.

This year’s concert will be held in place of the Rotary’s annual Philipsburg Summer Concert, but the goal is the same: to raise money for the local library and other community projects.

It’s a project close to the hearts of the former organizers, since the Aber Day Kegger was originally conceived as a way to raise money for the University of Montana library to save it from losing its accreditation. “We’ve had a lot of people ask to do an Aber Day Kegger, but we didn’t want to do it for a profit motive,” said MLAC Chairman Bob McCue. “Raising money for the Rotary and a small town library is a good fit and we’re happy to be a part of it.”

Philipsburg’s Outdoor Amphitheater also follows in the same tradition of the original kegger. It offers a large terraced hillside with excellent acoustics and plenty of room for dancing.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own blankets, lawn chairs and umbrellas for the event. Food, beer, wine, soft drinks and water will be available for purchase, as will the 30th anniversary Aber Day Kegger documentary (aberdaykegger.com).

Free parking for both cars and RVs is available near the town of Philipsburg, with additional hotels and camping within minutes of the venue. Handicapped seating is also be available. No pets, except for service dogs, will be admitted, and no outside food or beverages will be allowed.

Philipsburg was named “the Best Place to Live in the Past” by Men’s Journal, making it the perfect place for kegger attendees to dance down memory lane.
