Homebrew competition adds to a weekend of food, brews and fun

Enjoy a weekend of beer, food, music, and fun and sample everything from smooth golden ales to bock lagers during the Beer Fest in West, Oct. 17-18 at Holiday Inn West Yellowstone.

New this year is a HomeBrew Fest competition for amateur brewers from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (entry deadline is Oct. 15). All beers must have been brewed at home. Entries may be dropped off at the designated locations (Holiday Inn West Yellowstone or Cardinal Distributing in Bozeman) and mail-in entries will be accepted only from Montana and Idaho residents. The first beer entry is $8; and subsequent entries are $3 (limit is six per brewer).

The main event, Beer Fest in the West, offers unlimited samples of brews by regional and national breweries from 2-6 p.m.; Oktoberfest foods and music by the Gallatin Grass Project and Fool’s Gold are also on tap. Tickets are $25, which includes unlimited tastings, a souvenir tasting glass, tickets for two full pints of your favorite draft and light snacks.

The Branch Bar hosts an after-party and the Branch Restaurant offers a Chef’s Pairing Dinner at 7 p.m. The restaurant’s executive chef, Jacob Tew, and Cory Dragone of Blacksmith Italian of Bozeman, offer fine Montana cuisine, highlighted by craft brews from Lewis and Clark Brewing Co. of Helena. The culinary adventure is limited to 64 guests and costs $60 per person (must be 21 or older); RSVP at 406-646-7365.
