Montana is awash in haunted happenings during the month of Halloween. Here are a few of our favorites:

Scariest

  • Cutler Brothers Creepshow offers “the ultimate nightmare scare” in the state’s scariest venue: the Old Montana Prison in Deer Lodge, Thursdays-Saturdays, Oct. 23-31. Call 846-3111.
  • The Moss Mansion in Billings is transformed into the Bender Inn, with actors portraying this family of serial killers from the late 1800s and some of their victims, Oct. 17-31, with two special Midnight Madness Tours to the mansion’s mysterious third floor Oct. 30-31. Meanwhile, the grounds become a Haunted Mausoleum. Yikes!! Call 256-5100 or visit www.mossmansion.com.
  • Tour the dark passageways in the basement, visit the judge’s chambers and sit quietly in the old courtroom, armed only with flashlights and special ghost-hunting equipment during Ghost Tours, Saturdays nights, Oct. 10-31 at the Ravalli County Museum in Hamilton; call 363-3338 or visit www.brvhsmuseum.org for details.
  • Ghosts and spirits arise from the depths of the Sunshine Health Mine in Boulder and adjacent old graves during the Haunted Mine and Graveyard tour, 5-9 p.m. Thursdays-Sundays, Oct. 22-31; call 225-3670 for details.
