Get ready for an evening of mystery and mayhem in the Wild West at the Great Falls Animal Shelter’s Fourth Annual Murder Mystery Party! The Shelter Sidekicks are hosting, “Murder at the Deadwood Saloon,” on Saturday, March 5, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge (401 21st St N, Black Eagle). The cost is $40 per person and $75 per couple.
The evening includes hors d’oeuvres, dinner and dessert, and a silent auction. A no-host bar will also be available. All proceeds from the evening will go towards the Shelter’s Help Us Grow (HUG) Project, which will help fund the Great Falls Animal Shelter’s future cattery.
Murder mystery parties are interactive events, where everyone attending takes part in the fun. Traditionally, one of the participants is secretly, and unknowingly, playing the murderer, while the other party guests must determine who among them is the villain. Those attending play characters for the evening and help solve the crime. No previous acting experience is necessary; it’s like taking part in a grown-up version of the board game Clue.
This year’s murder mystery, “Murder at the Deadwood Saloon,” revolves around a poker tournament in the small western town of Deadwood. For weeks people have been coming to town for the tournament, from outlaws to marshals to saloon girls. The vast array of visitors and residents of Deadwood have made this small western frontier town THE place to be. As the festivities of the poker tournament conclude, a celebration party is planned at the Deadwood Saloon to award the prize money for the tournament. With a smattering of bandits, bank owners, saloon girls, gamblers, debutantes and a few locals, this is guaranteed to make for a very interesting evening!
As the tournament dwindles down, anticipation for the celebration party has only grown. Those expected at the celebration include: Harry & Henrietta High Stakes, Gambling Jack, Anna Belle, Montgomery Money, Holly Hickok, Banker Bob, Marshal Dalton, Sally Starr, Taffy Garrette, Billy the Bartender, Minnie Molly and Black Barbara. A full list of event characters and information about the evening can be found online at www.greatfallsmt.net/greatfallsanimalshelter.
Prior to the party, those playing a character role will be sent an invitation, a detailed character description, costume recommendations, acting tips and background information on the storyline. Participants are asked to read their character sheet, to not reveal everything about their character, to dress the part, review the Deadwood Gazette and use their money creatively (bribery and blackmail are highly encouraged!).
