The third annual Cookin’ on the Clark Fork BBQ Cook-off and Brewfest is Saturday, July 28, in Deer Lodge, but registration is open now for BBQ cooks, runners and vendors.

The event is from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., except for the 3K, 5K and 10K races that start at 8 a.m. The afternoon will include barbecue, a brewfest, vendors, live music, games and activities for the entire family.

BBQ cooks will demonstrate their prowess for judges and the public, beginning at 11 a.m. with judging of chicken, pork, pork ribs, beef brisket, burger and an open category for any item that is grilled. Any type of fuel may be used. Winning cooks receive trophies and cash prizes.

Cooks serve tasty BBQ samples and meals to the public through a token system. For information and to register contact Terry Jennings 406-498-4877 or Mike Blakeley 406-846-4660.

Downtown Main Street will be closed to traffic for the festivities. Buy a souvenir glass and tokens to sample fine microbrews offered by 10 area breweries. Vendors will offer arts, crafts, collectibles and food. Free games, crafts and activities will provide plenty of fun for kids from toddlers to age 12. Teens and adults can participate in a “porker” run, bed races and other activities. To register as a vendor, call Julie Schroder 406-560-5006 or Mike Blakeley 406-846-4660.

“Hoofin’ it on the Ranch” races begin at 8 a.m. Saturday from the Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site parking lot. All participants will get a commemorative T-shirt. Pre-register on the website www.racemontana.com/Register/?event=40314 or register in person Friday evening, July 27, from 5-7 p.m. at the city hall on Main Street or Saturday morning at the race site beginning at 7 a.m. For information contact Bob Rase 406-490-0662 or Melissa Gallagher 406-498-4144.

Committee chairman Terry Jennings said, “We are working hard to make this a successful family-friendly event and invite people to visit Deer Lodge to join in the fun as well as visit other attractions in town.”
