LRB delivers mellow country pop to Alberta Bair Theater Sept. 26

New & Notable

Fewer than 400 tickets remain for the performance of the Little River Band, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Alberta Bair Theater in Billings.

Throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s, LRB enjoyed huge success with multi-platinum albums and chart-topping hits like “Reminiscing,” “Cool Change,” “Lonesome Loser,” “The Night Owls,” “Take It Easy On Me,” “Help Is on Its Way,” “Happy Anniversary,”  “We Two,” “Man On Your Mind,” “The Other Guy,” and “It’s A Long Way There.”

The band formed in 1975 in Australia, and was one of that country’s prominent musical exports, shooting to fame on the strength of glowing harmonies and their mellow country-pop sound. The Eagles founding member, the late Glenn Frey, knew what he was saying when he dubbed Little River Band “the best singing band in the world.”

Vocalist and bass player Wayne Nelson, who joined the band in 1980, continues its legacy with a 2018 line-up that includes Ryan Ricks on drums,
Chris Marion on keyboards,
Rich Herring on lead guitar, and
Colin Whinnery on rhythm guitar and vocals.

“The smooth 1970s soft rock vocal harmonies of The Little River Band are hard to equal, so one can imagine what it was like for band leader Wayne Nelson to find a band that could do it like the original lineup – but somehow he did! And they have been on the road ever since,” writes Classic Rock Revisited after the group performed May 3 in Wichita.

Worldwide album and CD sales and digital downloads now top 30 million and LRB has set a record for having had Top 10 hits for six consecutive years. In fact, they were the very first band to achieve that remarkable status. According to BMI (Broadcast Music Inc.), “Reminiscing” has more than 5 million airplays on American radio, and “Lady” follows with more than 4 million airplays.

Tickets, from $35-$57, are available at the Alberta Bair Theater Box Office on the corner of Third Ave. N. and N. Broadway, by phone at 406-256-6052 (box office hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Saturday 10 a.m.-3 p.m.) or online at www.albertabairtheater.org.
