Celebrate the season in the festive village of Bigfork, beginning Dec. 7 with the Parade of Lights and the annual Touch of Christmas concert and continuing with the Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre performances of the perennial favorite, “A Christmas Story, The Musical.” Characterized by the line, “You’ll shoot yer eye out!” this show brings the beloved classic 1983 movie to hilarious life on stage at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Dec. 13-21, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15.
Set in 1940s Indiana, a young and bespectacled Ralphie Parker (Collin Olson) schemes his way toward the holiday gift of his dreams, an official Red Ryder® Carbine-Action 200-Shot Range Model Air Rifle. An infamous leg lamp (must be Italian), outrageous pink bunny pajamas, a maniacal department store Santa, a triple-dog-dare-you to lick a freezing flagpole, and the Chinese restaurant Christmas dinner are just a few of the distractions that stand between Ralphie and his Christmas wish.
Other leads in the production include Chase Coggins as The Old Man (aka Ralphie’s dad); Trevor Cato as the story’s author and narrator, Jean Shepherd; Maya Hartig as Mother; and Teddy Cotton as little brother Randy.
Songs include “When You’re a Wimp,” “Genius on Cleveland Street” and “Ralphie to the Rescue.” Nominated for three 2013 Tony Awards including Best Musical, The New York Times writes, “I was dazzled. You’d have to have a Grinch-sized heart not to feel a smile spreading across your face.”
Tickets are $8-$12; call 406-837-4886 or visit www.bigforkcenter.org.
