The Clay Studio of Missoula showcases work by current and past Clay Studio residents Dec. 2-22 during the ceramic art center’s annual Holiday Sale and Exhibition. Local and national artists offer everything from a new mug for your morning coffee or a vase for a bouquet of flowers, to sculptures for home or business.
Visit the studio from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, during the Holiday Open House, and check out free demonstrations by resident artists and instructors, artful activities including decoration painting, and musical entertainment by the multi-talented Steve Glueckert.
Special extended holiday gallery hours make shopping at the Clay Studio an easy way to find unique gift for all of the special people on your holiday gift list-including yourself!
The gallery is open from noon-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and noon-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday during the holiday season.
Also on tap this month are several short-format community workshops, including five different beginning pottery sessions; Painting with Underglaze, 6-9 p.m. Dec. 7; Pottery Date Night, 6-8 p.m. Dec. 9; Sculpting the Face, 6-9 p.m. Dec. 13-14; and Throw it Bigger, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 17. In addition, registration is open for a new session of winter classes, beginning Jan. 3.
Nationally known clay artist Richard Notkin teaches “small scale – BIG IDEA,” 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 4-5, in conjunction with a national exhibition by the same title that Notkin is jurying for the Clay Studio. Notkin will introduce participants to hands-on activities, demonstrations and illustrated lectures covering the technical and aesthetic knowledge he has gained during his 55 years working in clay. Tuition is $275 and includes basic class materials and lunch both days.
