Alberta Bair Theater in Billings welcomes a New Year with the touring Broadway production of “Fiddler on the Roof,” 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24.
Audiences across North America are toasting this new production from Tony-winning director Bartlett Sher and the team behind “South Pacific” and “The King and I.” The beloved musical is one of the most successful Broadway shows of all time, having won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
Rich with such showstoppers as “Tradition,” “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Matchmaker, Matchmaker” and “To Life (L’Chaim!),” this time-honored musical takes the audience to the village of Anatevka, and unspools the heartwarming tale of the iconic fiddler Tevye, as he seeks to find husbands for his independent daughters; it’s also the story of husbands and wives, community, and the triumph of life, love and laughter in the face of hardship.
Sher brings a fresh and authentic vision to this beloved theatrical masterpiece from Tony winner Joseph Stein and Pulitzer Prize winners Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick.
The show features a talented cast, lavish orchestra and stunning movement and dance from Israeli choreographer Hofesh Shechter. Based on the original staging by Jerome Robbins, “Fiddler on the Roof” promises to introduce a new generation to the uplifting celebration that raises its cup to L’Chaim!
“A magnificent, life-affirming production” writes Time Out New York and the Star Tribune lauds, “This renewed ‘Fiddler’ speaks to the power of stories.”
