The beloved Ahn Trio and the renowned James Sewell Ballet Company come together for two inspiring performances of live chamber music and contemporary dance, March 11 in Big Sky and March 14 in Billings. Together, they blur the lines between two elegant art forms.
The Ahn sisters, featuring Lucia (piano), Angella (violin) and Maria (cello), have enthralled audiences worldwide with their freewheeling approach to chamber music, original programming, musical trailblazing and unabashed zeal in playing works written for them by living composers.
Trained at The Juilliard School of Music, the Korean-born sisters are celebrated as consummate musicians, innovative collaborators, classical music ambassadors and teachers. The LA Times called them “exacting and exciting musicians,” and New York Newsday proclaimed them “classical revolutionaries.”
James Sewell Ballet was founded in New York City by James Sewell and Sally Rousse and brought to Minnesota in 1993. Combining their expertise, vision and chutzpah they envisioned a close-knit company of dance artists willing to both challenge their physical limits and expand their notions about ballet.
Over three decades later, critically acclaimed JSB performances move and delight audiences across the country. They embody the founders’ original vision of a professional company of dancers performing innovative work that explores the technical boundaries of ballet. Together, they blend the elegance of classical ballet, the freedom of modern dance, and the can-do spirit of vaudeville.
“Different and unpredictable, this is the company to see.” – New York Times
