Musical Dreamtime Journey: Two Solstice Concerts

Two candlelit solstice concerts in Hamilton and Missoula blending global instruments, reflection, and community

On Stage

As the winter solstice draws near, there’s no better way to celebrate the return of light and the spirit of the season than by attending Musical Dreamtime Journey, the contemplative holiday concert experience presented by Drum Brothers. This year’s performances — on Sunday, December 21st in Hamilton, and Monday, December 22nd in Missoula — promise an unforgettable journey of sound and presence.

Held in the round, by candlelight, and without applause, Musical Dreamtime Journey was a treasured seasonal tradition in the region. In recent years it has taken a hiatus but will be revived for 2025. The concert invites audiences into a space of deep listening and communal reflection through richly layered music drawn from cultures around the world. Players weave together wind instruments, percussion, flutes, didgeridoos, harp, singing bowls, voices, and more to create an immersive soundscape that begins where the ordinary concert experience leaves off.

This year’s performances feature Drum Brothers founder Michael Marsolek alongside special guests Nyon and Ravi Marsolek — a dynamic collaboration that brings both seasoned artistry and fresh creative energy to the stage. Lawrence Duncan, long associated with these seasonal concerts, has retired from performing, making this year’s concerts a special moment to honor the evolving legacy of Musical Dreamtime Journey while embracing the future.

Whether you’re returning year after year or planning to experience Musical Dreamtime Journey for the first time, these concerts offer a unique way to slow down, breathe, and connect with both community and the deeper rhythms of the season. Bring a cushion and settle into the circle — this is music that doesn’t just entertain, it transforms.
