Show combines live ‘70s soul music, hilarious characters, and a decadent chocolate dessert.
Last year The Dirty Sexy Chocolate Show sold out two nights at The Top Hat in Missoula several weeks in advance. Now the creators are bringing it back for a four-city Northwest tour.
The tour started last week at the Crush Lounge in Whitefish followed by a featured evening at The Triple Door in Seattle. It returns to Montana for a visit to the Myrna Loy Center in Helena Feb. 12 and two nights at the Top Hat, Feb. 13-14. Fifteen Missoula-based artists and designers will be traveling with the show – a hefty number.
“We could have trimmed the show down for touring purposes,” says Jeremy Sher, the show’s creator, “but we didn’t want to change the nature of it. It’s big, silly, sexy entertainment and it needs to stay that way.”
Audiences will be treated to all-new choreography from Heather Adams (founder/director of the Downtown Dance Collective), the hilarious performance of local favorite Reid Reimers (Frank-N-Furter from “The Rocky Horror Show Live”) and the sultry singing of Margi Cates (a member of the Whizpops, Northern Lights), in her first Missoula performance since moving to New Orleans to pursue her singing career. Local stalwart John Sporman leads the band.
The show combines live ‘70s soul music, hilarious characters, singing and dancing, and a decadent chocolate dessert that’s actually made on stage. The audience gets dessert at the end of the show (included in the ticket price), and there’s plenty of chocolate to taste throughout the evening as well.
Sher has served as pastry chef at three Missoula establishments: Scotty’s Table, Posh Chocolat and Buttercup Market and Cafe. He holds a degree in Pastry and Specialty Baking and has been making pastries at hotels, restaurants and bakeries around the country and overseas for the past 20 years.
He has also worked as an actor in regional theatres from Seattle to Chicago to New York, and has taught theatre at universities and high schools around the U.S. Locally he’s been seen in Montana Rep’s “Circle Mirror Transformation,” the Missoula Colony and many other projects.
This show represents the combination of his two careers, and the artist was recently recognized by the Montana Arts Council with a 2015 Artist’s Innovation Award for his unique pairing of pastry and theatre.
