Rebecca Folsom Trio kicks off the Mission Valley Live season Sept. 28.
Rebecca Folsom, whose world-class voice traverses nearly four octaves, brings her expressive songs to Ronan Sept. 28 for the opening concert in the Mission Valley Live series. KUNC radio describes her voice as “knock-you-to-your-knees” and “her songs hit like little earthquakes” writes Westword Magazine.
While her range is impressive, it’s the expression in her voice that rivets audiences, flowing from lilting tenderness to fully liberated, unbridled release. Her vocal quality is reminiscent of old Appalachia while also embodying a blues prowess. “A lot of sass and attitude,” writes High Plains Radio. “Sweet one minute, rebellious and smart the next.”
Her newest CDs, Extraordinary Days and Little Medicines, were born out of writing 52 new songs in a year. The blend of front porch-instrumentals, intimate vocals, and soaring harmonies reveals tales of human heartbreak, redemption, and liberation. She gathers life’s stories, alchemizes them, and offers a transcending, toe-tapping vision of hope in songs she describes as “little medicines for the soul.”
Within a few weeks of its release, Extraordinary Days hit number 5 on the national Folk DJ chart, while the song “Better Times” was named number 1 Best Folk song. Folsom also earned the number 8 spot on Folk DJ’s list of top artists of 2016.
Performing in Ronan with her trio, Folsom and her colleagues share many accomplishments, including Nashville songwriting success and a
Grammy nomination, as well as topping the Roots/Americana and College radio charts, and playing top national and international venues. They have been professional singer/songwriters, touring musicians, and teachers for over 20 years.
A true Renaissance woman, Folsom is a published author with two books of poetry, and an oil painter who has shown her work in numerous galleries. She also offers Art of Vocal Freedom workshops.
“I want to help people, in whatever form I can, free themselves to live more openly, authentically, and with confidence that their dreams are possible and truly valued,” she says.
The Rebecca Folsom Trio performs at 7 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Ronan Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $5-$15 and available online or at the door; youth 18 and under are free (if 12 and under, must be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult).
