Labor Day Arts Fair in Red Lodge offers ample opportunities to meet and mingle with artists.
Dozens of artists converge on Lions Park in Red Lodge Sept. 5 for the 43rd annual Labor Day Arts Fair, organized by the Carbon County Arts Guild & Depot Gallery.
Booths are open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 5, at the park adjacent to the historic train depot – home to the gallery and Arts Guild. Browse a wide range of art and fine crafts from both returning and new vendors. Artisans share paintings, sculpture, glass, photography, jewelry, pottery, knitwear, woodwork, and much more, giving visitors an opportunity to meet the artists and get to know more about their work.
“Take time at the Labor Day Arts Fair to shop for that special occasion or indulge in something just for yourself,” suggests CCAG executive director Kim Kapalka.
In addition to the arts and fine crafts booths the gazebo offers artist demonstrations from 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m., Zumba at 11:15 and music by Charlie Brandine from noon-1 p.m.
Of course, the Labor Day Arts Fair wouldn’t be complete without food. Try kettle corn, fine chocolates, and caramel apples while enjoying the event.
“We encourage you to bring your friends and family to enjoy the last, best summer event in Red Lodge,” says Kapalka.
Admission is free, and the fair is open rain or shine. Lions Park is located one block west of Broadway on 8th Street.
Two new exhibits at Depot Gallery
In addition to the Labor Day Arts Fair, the guild hosts two shows in September, both opening 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3: Yellowstone, A Group Exhibition, showcases works by two-dozen artists celebrating the beauty of the first national park, which turns 150 this year; and work from the Beartooth Plein Air Society and the Stillwater Society.
The Stillwater Society, formed in 1985, is a group of artists who gather regularly for mutual support and to view each other’s work in progress. Mountain landscapes and the surrounding ranch country provide a rich source of subject matter for their paintings. Members of the Beartooth Plein Air Society work en Plein Air, which is the act of painting outdoors. Both exhibits continue through Oct. 29.
