The Missoula Symphony tells the story of The Mountain That Loved a Bird in its annual Family Concert.
The Missoula Symphony’s annual youth and family concert, The Mountain That Loved a Bird, brings a story of friendship and renewal to the UM Dennison Theatre at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28. Based on the beloved book by Eric Carle and Alice McLerran, this musical adaptation was created by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw. Concertgoers of all ages will enjoy an afternoon of music, education, enchantment and audience interaction.
The Missoula Symphony is also hosting A Musical Quest at the Missoula Public Library from 10 a.m-noon Saturday, Jan. 28. With symphony musicians as their guides, participants will take a magical journey to learn more about music, musical instruments and all that the Missoula Public Library offers. Join Music Director Julia Tai as she “conducts” an orchestra at this free event.
In addition to the family concert and library event, the Missoula Symphony is once again working with a local nonprofit to further enhance the experience for youth and families. This year’s collaboration – with Five Valleys Land Trust – offers a “treasure hunt” that encourages visiting the outdoors in nearby valleys.
Tai has curated a special list of symphonic music, paired with Five Valleys’ landscapes, open spaces and trails, to round out the hunt. Treasure maps will be distributed at the Jan. 28 concert and will also be available at the Missoula Symphony Association or Five Valleys Land Trust offices beginning Jan. 30.
Tickets for The Mountain That Loved a Bird are not included in season ticket subscriptions, but individual tickets can be purchased for $8 by visiting missoulasymphony.org or calling 406-721-3194.
