Bozeman native stars in Yellowstone Ballet Nutcracker

Professional dancers add to community production Dec. 10 at Willson Auditorium in Bozeman

Lucas Segovia and Molly Groeschi star in Yellowstone Ballet Company’s 32nd annual production of The Nutcracker, Sunday, Dec. 10. Performances are at 1 and 4:30 p.m. at the Willson Auditorium in Bozeman.

Segovia, a native of Argentina, will perform the roles of the Nutcracker Prince and the Cavalier. He’s performed with Ballet Argentina and the Joffrey Ballet as a principal dancer and has performed around the world in more than 300 venues.

Molly (Huempfner) Groeschl, a Bozeman native, stars as the Sugar Plum Fairy. She began her early training under Ann Bates and Dana Sorg in a studio overlooking Main Street. She was accepted and went off to train year-round with Pacific Northwest Ballet, in addition to spending her summers training under scholarship at Ballet West, American Ballet Theatre (NYC), Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, and Orlando Ballet.

Groeschl went on to perform professionally with Milwaukee Ballet, Colorado Ballet, and as a Soloist for Ballet Tucson. Additionally, she was brought on as a guest artist in-residence for Madison Ballet.

Some of her favorite featured roles performed include Russian Girl from Serenade, Second Violin from Concerto Barocco, Lead Trio in Donizetti Variations, Rubies Pas De Deux from Jewels, and Pigtail Girl from Graduation Ball.

Yellowstone Ballet teams up with  Circus Center of Bozeman/406CIRQUE, Bridger View Ballet Center and School of Classical Ballet Company, Billings, in this community production.

Every adult ticket purchase qualifies for a free child’s ticket. Children who dress as Nutcracker characters are eligible for a gift certificate from the Rocky Mountain Toy Company. The costume contest will occur during intermission and each participant will receive a small gift.

Yellowstone Ballet Company is under the artistic direction of founder Kathleen Rakela, a recipient of the Montana Arts Council Fellowship for the Performing Arts. The innovative company has showcased local, national and international dance talent in Montana since 1990.
