Multi-media Artist Luzene Hill (enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians) will present “The Sound of Silence,” an artist talk and action on Indigenous Peoples' Day. A conversation with the artist and catered reception will follow.
Informed by pre-contact culture of the Americas, Hill advocates for indigenous sovereignty linguistic, cultural and personal sovereignty. These concepts form the basis for her installations, performance, drawings and artist’s books.
Hill's visit is part of MSUB Library's and The Writer’s Voice programming for the NEA Big Read in honor of U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo.
