Bozeman Film Society: “At Eternity's Gate”

From Academy Award-nominated director Julian Schnabel (”The Diving Bell” and the “Butterfly”) comes the vividly affecting film “At Eternity’s Gate.” Journey inside the head of famed but tormented artist Vincent van Gogh (Academy Award-nominated Willem Dafoe) as he spends his final years in Arles, France, painting masterworks of the natural world that surrounds him.
Any film could give you the gist of Van Gogh’s life story, but perhaps only this one can make you feel what it would be like to stand in a field with this brilliant mind, and watch him make magic out of scenery.
“This is a film about painting and a painter and their relationship to infinity,” says Shnabel. “It is told by a painter. It contains what I felt were essential moments in his life, this is not the official history it's my version. One that I hope could make you closer to him."
