Imagine a chamber concert in Beethoven's day, bathed in twinkling candlelight, adding to the magical harmonies being presented in an intimate setting. A Beethoven favorite will feature alongside a Haydn quartet with a bit of whimsy, nicknamed “The Joke.”
Tchaikovsky's Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture contains arguably the most famous love theme in classical music. The theme is instantly recognizable and has been used countless times in film, television, and pop culture. It appears in films and shows like Wayne’s World, Clueless, A Christmas Story, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Seeing Double, The Simpsons, South Park, SpongeBob SquarePants, Kim Possible, Scrubs, Pushing Daisies, Sesame Street and many, many more.
The program also features Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture, Bruch’s lyrical Violin Concerto No. 1 with Matthew Hakkarainen, and Coleridge-Taylor’s dramatic Ballade in A Minor.
