Green Door Gallery hosts artist Cathryn McIntyre for an artist reception and the opening of her exhibit: “Chronicling the Female Experience Amid Men.”
This collection of McIntyre’s work originated as the result of a sexist encounter that she experienced during an art auction in 2012. After being told, “You paint yourself naked. That’s a painting worth buying,” she was incensed. She spoke with other woman to see if they had experienced sexist encounters while working in their professions. They all had.
“These works are a narrative. A dialogue. They are expressive of the experiences of these women, whose stories I have embroidered on the clothes they wore while they were working.”
specializes in oil paintings produced on nontraditional surfaces that are often found amid the plains of Northeastern Montana. Throughout her works she celebrates the timeless beauty of a very unique corner of the state.
