Gideon Freudmann is a cellist and composer who has redefined the role of the instrument for over three decades. He is best known for adapting the amplified cello to craft his distinct ‘CelloBop’ sound, consisting of a unique blend of classical, jazz, folk, rock, blues and funk. Using foot-operated effect pedals, he brings cello playing into new territories of looping, soaring, multi-layering and improvisation.
Gideon returns to The Myrna to live-score the classic Buster Keaton silent film: Sherlock Jr. Gideon’s mix of modern cello scoring alongside Keeton’s silver-screen masterwork is sure to please children and adults alike.
Sherlock Jr. (1924) synopsis: A kindly movie projectionist (Buster Keaton) longs to be a detective. When his fiancée (Kathryn McGuire) is robbed by a local thief (Ward Crane), the poor projectionist is framed for the crime. Disheartened, he returns to his movie theater, where he falls asleep and dreams that he is the great Sherlock Holmes.
