Some of the landscapes that can be seen in the Bitterroot Valley were created when Glacial Lake Missoula covered the valley as far as Lake Como during the Ice Ages. The flood features are subtle but an essential part of the story. These include lake lines, beach deposits, and erratics. Some of the views from the bus can be traced to J.T. Pardee, the geologist who lived near Philipsburg and made these discoveries in the early 1900’s. The bus trip will also include a stop at the Ravalli County Museum and the overlook at Blodgett Canyon.
Trip leaves by bus from the Montana Natural History Center.
Deadline for registration is May 5.
Bring lunch and water. Some water and snacks will be available. Some walking and light hiking on rough terrain this trip includes a short, but steep hike to the Blodgett Canyon Overlook.
