Fall Percussion Concert

the UM Percussion Ensemble and Islanders Steel Band, under the direction of Dr. Robert LedBetter, present a variety of repertoire including Firefly by Nathan Daugthery for full percussion orchestra based on Japanese musical themes; Alone or Together by Eugene Novotney for a quartet of bucket drummers playing with glow-in-the-dark sticks; and Night of the Moon Dances features marimba soloist Hannah Hutchins with a quartet of percussionists. The second half features the Islanders Steel Band performing their own unique variety of tunes including a premiere of Brayden Matthews’ modern dynamo piece Codextron, a jazz-meets-Latin piece by Andy Narell entitled Calabash, and the popular hit by the '80's group TOTO entitled Africa.
