Montana-based Flathead Lake International Cinemafest (FLIC) will celebrate its 8th annual film festival with a strong slate of full-length features, shorts, animation, student films and documentaries, including a broad selection of international films from over a dozen countries. In addition, there are 13 films produced in Montana.
About 30 filmmakers plan to travel to Montana from across the nation and globe, including casts and crews from Germany and South Korea.
Highlights include “The Last Beyond,” a 1930s period piece shot in Montana and featuring Stephen Small Salmon, a Pend d’Oreille tribal member from the Flathead Reservation, 6 p.m. Friday; and “Wuthering Heights,” produced and directed by Montana native Bryan Ferriter, 1 p.m. Sunday.
FLIC kicks off on Friday, Jan. 24, with an informal gathering from 4-6 p.m. at Perfect Shot Tavern; films show on two screens, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Showboat Cinema. Screenings resume at 8:30 a.m. with a free, animated children’s film and breakfast. Festival film screenings continue at 10 a.m. Saturday and the festival draws to a close with the Awards Show and dessert reception on Sunday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Encore screenings are available Jan. 26-30.
