The first of the modern sport fishing films, Tarpon was created by Guy De La Valdene and Christian Odasso in the wild panorama of 1970s Key West. Full of colorful scenes and set against a backdrop of treasure hunters, smugglers, hippies, and eccentrics, the film also features stunning cinematography and thrilling tarpon fishing. Legendary authors Richard Brautigan, Thomas McGuane, and Jim Harrison join with famous flats guides Woody Sexton, Gil Drake, and Steve Huff to pose questions about life, art, nature, and catch-and-release fishing. Original music by Jimmy Buffett. Voice-over by Jim Harrison.
All That Is Sacred, a new short film by Scott Ballew about the Key West scene 50 years ago, focuses on the idea that a remote island city at the tip of America incubated one of last great counterculture arts scenes. Starring Tom McGuane and Jimmy Buffett, All That is Sacred premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in August. In the late 60's a group of poets, writers, and musicians descended upon Key West to pursue their love of literature and fishing (and mind-altering drugs). McGuane is joined by friends Jim Harrison, Richard Brautigan, Russell Chatham, and others - a crew that created some of the finest art of their generation.
