Missoula on Main 2024: Skyscapes and Soundwaves with Heather Harp

Dec 31

Heather Harp is a multidisciplinary artist, musician, and house painter based in Missoula. Her artistic journey began early, inspired by teachers who encouraged her to pursue her passion for art and design. She earned a B.A. in Fine Arts from Beloit College in Wisconsin, where she received the Coleman Foundation Entrepreneurship Award. This award enabled her to start a screen-printing business, allowing her to sell her artwork on T-shirts while still in school. After moving to Missoula in 1995, she shifted her focus to knitting, a craft that fit seamlessly into the busy rhythm of motherhood. Over time, her creative interests expanded to watercolor painting, and in 2021, she began creating “feltings” large, colorful wall hangings made from felt in bold, curving shapes that echo the hues of the sea and sky all hand-sewn together.
