Missoula Symphony: Masterworks I: Viva Americas!

Oct 4 - Oct 5

The Missoula Symphony kicks off the season with a vibrant celebration of the Americas- music that pulses with rhythm, passion, and soul. Viva Americas! brings together the voices of Latin American composers, each weaving a unique musical tapestry that blends tradition with innovation.
The journey begins with Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz’s Kauyumari, a mesmerizing soundscape inspired by Huichol mythology, evoking the spirit of the sacred blue deer. From there, world-renowned violinist, Kerson Leong, takes center stage for Astor Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, where tango meets classical form in a dazzling reinterpretation of Vivaldi’s timeless work. Expect fiery rhythms, sultry melodies, and breathtaking virtuosity.
Next, Heitor Villa-Lobos’ Sinfonietta No. 1, “A Memoria de Mozart”, combines Brazilian sensibilities in this neo-classical composition, drawing inspiration from a conflict of culture and diversity. The night ends in a blaze of rhythm and energy with Arturo Márquez’s La Conga del Fuego Nuevo, an electrifying piece that builds to a feverish, dance-like frenzy, leaving the audience on its feet.
From Argentina to Brazil to Mexico, this program is a musical odyssey through the heart of the Americas. Don’t miss this exhilarating season opener with special guest artist and violin virtuoso, Kerson Leong.
