Montana History Club Speaker: What does it mean to be bold?

Feb 22

Beth Judy, author of "Bold Women in Montana History," reflects on that question through the more than 15 lives of Montana women profiled in her book. Her subjects range from Pitamakin or Running Eagle, the Blackfeet warrior, to Hollywood star Myrna Loy, from the Greenough sisters of rodeo fame, to Alma Smith Jacobs, Montana's state librarian in the 1970s who quietly fought for civil rights in her home town of Great Falls. Other women in the book include the Fligelman sisters of Helena, African-American homesteader Annie Morgan, Crow culture-keeper and author Pretty Shield, the entire Women's Protective Union, Native American activist and banker Elouise Cobell, modern artist and rancher Isabelle Johnson, and Jeannette Rankin.
Refreshments are provided by Lillian Wenger and Myrtle and Gene Miller.
