Opening Reception: Exhibition: Flow of Displacement by Seongmin Yoo

Artist Statement: "The natural flow of people, animals, and resources has been increasingly disrupted by rigid borders, restrictive policies, and environmental destruction. Migration whether for survival or in pursuit of personal growth is often seen as a crisis rather than an intrinsic part of existence. Governments enforce control over human movement, sever wildlife corridors, and manipulate economic systems to restrict access to essential resources. These barriers create artificial scarcity, displacement, and instability, reinforcing the illusion that movement is something to be prevented rather than understood.
The Flow of Displacement invites audiences to confront their own reactions to unfamiliar presences entering their space. Initially, the figures may evoke fear or an instinct to push them away, but as viewers move among them, a shift occurs what once felt foreign begins to feel familiar, even universal. By experiencing both separation and belonging, the work reveals how restrictions actively block movement, exposing the mechanisms of exclusion and control that shape our world.”
