Peter Koch: The Book as a Work of Art

Jul 20 - Oct 5

LT Pick

The Book as a Work of Art highlights a select collection of Peter Rutledge Koch’s work that spans his career. He founded a letterpress in Missoula in 1974, and in 1978 moved his press to the San Francisco Bay Area —where he continues to work today. Koch is a celebrated letterpress master printmaker, artists' book publisher and small book publisher, typographer, educator, and designer, internationally known for his artist books.
The exhibit brings together for the first time in Montana various key pieces of Koch’s work from 1974 through 2022. The overall body of artistic work draws attention to the trajectory of Koch’s history as an artist by addressing the importance of fine press through his high concept/high craft artists' books within the field of fine arts.
A Curator’s Lecture, The Book Becoming Art, begins at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 1.
