Reception for Ben Blackwood: Extracted from Ashes

Extracted from Ashes is a solo exhibition featuring wood-fired vessels and forms by Ben Blackwood, who is completing his two-year wood fire residency at The Clay Studio of Missoula. Several years of pouring concrete for a living inspired him to return to school at Montana State University where he earned his BFA in Ceramics. His time at MSU sparked a passion for wood firing and an interest in the physical and chemical properties of Montana’s local clays. This has allowed him to make work that satiates his cravings to labor and create, while also satisfying his urges to engage with the secluded wilderness of Montana.
Ben Blackwood: Extracted from Ashes opens July 9 and continues through July 31.
