Shaun of the Dead

Nov 1

The Babcock Theatre’s November screening of one film in Edgar Wright’s famous Cornetto Trilogy each week starts off with the first film in the trilogy, the 2004 zombie comedy, Shaun of the Dead in celebration of the film’s 20th anniversary. This film instantly became a modern contemporary cult classic upon release, full of Wright’s familiar dynamic cinematography, a humorous plot and witty cockney banter that added a refreshing twist to the zombie genre, and terrific acting and chemistry from Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and the rest of the cast. It’s a must see for any fan of the horror and/or comedy genre.
Shaun is a lazy and rather boring department store employee who lives a noticeably uneventful life involving his girlfriend, mother, best friend, and his local pub. Shortly after being dumped, it appears that the dead are inexplicably coming back to life as zombies and terrorizing London. Seeing the opportunity to prove himself, Shaun hatches a half-baked plan to rescue his girlfriend and hunker down at the local pub with their friends until the situation is resolved. What’s the worst that could happen?
