Formed in Minneapolis in the early 1980s, Soul Asylum have spent more than four decades blending punk energy, guitar-driven rock, and deeply personal songwriting into a sound that helped define alternative rock. Led by frontman Dave Pirner, the band first broke into the mainstream with their double-platinum album Grave Dancers Union, which featured the Grammy-winning hit “Runaway Train” and alternative anthem “Somebody to Shove.”
The momentum continued with Let Your Dim Light Shine and its international hit “Misery,” while more recent releases like Hurry Up and Wait and Slowly But Shirley prove the band still has plenty left in the tank.
More than 40 years after getting their start, Soul Asylum remain a constant presence on the road and one of alternative rock’s most enduring live acts.
