The String Orchestra of the Rockies’ 35th season opens with the internationally acclaimed double bass phenomenon, Catalin Rotaru. Born in Romania, Rotaru travels the world dazzling audiences with his one-of-a-kind virtuosity on the bass. He makes his SOR debut in his own arrangement of the Haydn C Major cello concerto and several short concert pieces by Giovanni Bottesini.
The program opens with the melodic “Nocturne” of Czech composer Antonin Dvorak, originally written as the slow movement of his double bass quintet, and closes with the “String Serenade” of Joseph Suk, a work inspired by Dvorak, who was his mentor and teacher.
