The Hunchback of Notre Dame is based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney film, originally developed by Disney Theatrical Productions.
From Victor Hugo’s 1830s gothic novel, comes a tragic, yet hopeful story of Quasimodo. Banished to live as the bell ringer in the Notre Dame tower in Paris because of his physical deformities, he lives as an outcast. One day he ventures outside but is ridiculed by everyone except the lovely Esmerelda, who pleads for mercy towards Quasimodo (“God Help the Outcasts”). Quasimodo’s struggle for acceptance and love may find him to be an unlikely hero. Disney is gifted at showing the darker side of humanity mixed with compassion and hope in this unforgettable musical.
