Stumptown Art Studio celebrates the work of local photographer, Gerald Askevold through June with an exhibit of photographs from around the world.
A Montana native, he received formal education as a professional scientist
and engineer, so it follows that photography the marriage of technology with the arts would be a natural fit as a medium for personal creative exploration and expression.
Askevold has participated in numerous photography workshops and a nine-month residency in a photography program at the former Sun Valley Center for the Arts, Idaho.
After returning to the Flathead in 1976, he co-founded what evolved into Studio 8, with an initial group of four other Flathead Valley photographers who introduced contemporary photography to the valley; he also worked as a freelance photographer and taught a number of photography courses at Flathead Valley Community College.
The opening reception also includes a virtual tribute to his late wife, ceramist Sally Askevold; a fundraising sale will also be held from the artist’s personal collection to benefit Stumptown Art Studio.
