The Winter Outdoor Skills Camp is a 3-day, 2-night program (February 27-March 1, 2026) for participants ages 12-16 held at the Outdoor Education Center. The camp focuses on backcountry safety and snow science, specifically an Avalanche Awareness Course by the Friends of the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center and curriculum from Winter Wildlands Alliance’s SnowSchool Program. Lessons include safe winter backcountry travel, winter shelter building, how to make a fire in the snow, an avalanche dog rescue demo, wildlife adaptations to winter conditions, and winter habitat use.
The cost of each camp includes all meals, instruction and activities, some equipment/gear, and lodging.
